6 Ways To Add Mindfulness To Your Day

6 Ways To Add Mindfulness To Your Day

Feeling stressed and scattered on a daily basis? Here are 6 easy ways to practice mindfulness in your daily life.

With all of this intense eclipse energy in the air at the moment paired with Mercury in Retrograde it's easy to feel tired, anxious, and a little bit all of the place.

One important thing I try and incorporate into the lives of myself and my clients to bring about even a little bit more inner peace and harmony is mindfulness.

But what is mindfulness? Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to the present moment using various techniques to help us become aware of our inner thoughts and feelings so that rather than becoming overwhelmed by them, we understand and integrate them helping us to manage them.

Here are 6 super easy habits you can pick up to bring yourself back into the present moment with mindfulness.

Habit 1 - Meditate

Meditation is a time tested technique proven to bring you back to the present moment.

By focusing on aligning the breath with the body meditation has been proven to reduce stress, increase patience and tolerance, reduce negative emotions, and improve self-awareness.

Whether it's a 5 minute guided meditation on Youtube or an hour long Sound Bath Mediation with a guide, taking that time for yourself will bring you back down to earth.

Habit 2 - Practice Gratitude

Gratitude can be a difficult one to practice at first, especially if things seems stressful and chaotic in your daily life at the time, but taking a moment to take note of the great things in your life can have amazing benefits.

Listing the things you're grateful for can improve emotional regulation, increase feelings of hope and positivity, raise your vibrations and can even improve your sleep!

Have a go at it today and write down 3 things you're truly grateful for before you go to sleep and see the difference in your mood the next day!

"We are who we practice to be. So if you practice gratitude, you'll be grateful." – Dr. Joe Dispenza

Habit 3 - Exercise

Moving the body through exercise not only has all of the amazing benefits for health that we know about, but it can also have amazing benefits for mind and energetic body as well.

Exercising is a great way to bring your mind's focus to the present moment by synching your breathing with movement, this can help stop cyclical thoughts in their tracks by tricking the mind into thinking that a high heart rate from anxiety is actually from the exercise.

Exercise is also a great way to get any stored energy in the body unblocked and moving around, making it easier to process those emotions and events that have gotten stuck.

So the next time you feel anxious or like you're stuck in a rut get that body moving and feel your good energy come back to you.

Habit 4 - Walk in Nature

Have you ever felt like your mind was cluttered and you couldn't think straight but the minute you take yourself for a walk outside you feel re-charged and calm?

Well that is because walking in nature reduces stress by lowering concentrations of cortisol, lowering blood pressure and lowering pulse rates giving your body a chance to slow down and re-connect with the mind.

Plus re-connecting with nature can help ground your physical and energetic body, and the fresh air can be extremely cleansing.

Take a minute the next time you feel stressed to stretch your legs and go for a nature walk, noticing how much calmer you feel afterwards.

Habit 5 - Read

Did you know that reading can put your brain into delta wave function in the same way that deep meditation does?

This is why you can completely lose track of time when you sit down to read "for 5 minutes" and then look up and 3 hours have gone past.
Entering this type of brain wave function can increase creativity and help you mind and body enter into a deep state of relaxation.

Reading itself is also a great way to train the mind to focus on the here and now, bringing your energy and focus to the present.

"Realise deeply that the present moment is all we have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life." - Eckhart Tolle

Habit 6 - Drink Water

There's a reason why water is called "God's Champagne", it's believed across the world in many cultures that water carries healing energy and vibrations.

Taking a sip of water when emotions are running high can not only regulate the body's temperature cooling down the heat from any feelings that are coming up but it can also unblock any stored energy around the throat, heart, and solar plexus energy centres.

Staying hydrated in general is also key for your normal bodily functions, it can help carry nutrients and oxygen to your cells, flushes bacteria, and aids digestion keeping your physical body happy and healthy as well as your energetic body.

Try this the next time you feel like your mind needs to cool down: speak your intention into a glass of water before drinking it, and then feel that intention spreading through your body as you drink it. You'll feel instantly better!

Now there's no need to try and incorporate all of these into your day all at once! Give them a go and see what works for you and what doesn't.

No matter which habits you choose to make a daily thing, practising mindfulness will help lead you to a more balanced, and peaceful life.
